What: Support group for sharing about feelings and improving coping skills related to common South Asian experiences like imposter syndrome, complex family dynamics, people pleasing, balancing cultural expectations with individual values and goals, not feeling good enough, and struggling to have a strong sense of who you are. Interpersonal and communication skills, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation will be developed as well.

Where: Virtual sessions conducted via a HIPAA-compliant, secure video platform

When: The next group start date is TBD.

Why: Giving and receiving support in group therapy can be extremely effective in improving mental health and relationships for individual group members. Having a consistent, communal, and supportive space to be heard, seen, validated, and gently challenged can help you confront feelings of inadequacy, conflict, guilt, shame, anxiety, anger, loneliness, sadness, and disconnection and improve coping and relational skills, allowing you to move through your life with more confidence, self-acceptance, peace, and connection.

I was inspired to create this group therapy offering after observing common themes in feelings, thought patterns, and experiences among my many clients with South Asian backgrounds. These clients often felt very alone in what they were going through, but their stories were much more common than they realized. Shame and stigma around mental health has historically silenced and isolated those in South Asian communities, so I’ve created this group to provide a shared safe space to explore the experience of being South Asian among other people who “get it,” free from judgment, guilt, and shame.
